The Super Bowl of Sex Trafficking

Super Bowl Sex Trafficking
Est Reading Time: 2 mins

The Super Bowl is one of the largest gatherings in the world, and with that, comes a rise in sex trafficking. However, this isn’t just a crime that takes place once a year at the big game. It is a daily reality that much of our world tries to ignore. Consequently, we feel passionately about raising awareness and advocating for change.

To clarify, the Super Bowl does not cause sex trafficking; it just presents traffickers with a larger opportunity to spread their vileness. Just yesterday, Atlanta authorities had arrested 40 individuals involved in sex trafficking. We celebrate this step towards justice, but there is a long road ahead.

Sex Trafficking

According to A21, sex trafficking is “forcing, deceiving, or coercing a person to perform a commercial sex act.” Sadly, it happens every day of the year, in virtually every zip code of our nation. It is estimated that over 200,000 minors are trafficked each year, with an average age between 12 and 14. It is the second largest, but fastest growing, criminal enterprise in the world! So, while the Super Bowl offers a yearly reminder that these horrors exist, the hard truth is that we need to be fighting against sex trafficking year-round.

Do This.

Christians have the opportunity to radically redeem the culture and combat some of the issues that lead to such horrors. Moreso than protesting Drag Queen Story Hour, atrocities which violate basic rights, such as those committed in human trafficking, should be high on our radar. So, what can we do to help combat sex trafficking?

First and foremost, pray! Pray that the Lord will work through our us – our churches, organizations, law enforcement agencies, governments – to bring this abhorrent form of slavery and exploitation to an end.

Get engaged with local organizations, support their efforts, and learn how you can be on the lookout for trafficking that may be going on in your very community. Here are a few organizations we recommend:

In Our Backyard

Sacred Roots Farm

Agape International Missions

The Super Bowl

As you gather with friends and family to watch the Super Bowl, I encourage you to take a few minutes to raise awareness about sex trafficking, pray for the victims, and take action to stop trafficking in your local communities. Being aware can make all the difference!

This is where you can get involved RIGHT here in the Upstate! SWITCH is a great organization! Did you know that South Carolina is one of the highest in familial trafficking? It’s so incredibly sad.
Reagan had a 14 yr old girl come up to her after a SWITCH presentation, hug her and say “Thank you for what you all are doing. My cousin sold me into trafficking and I just recently got out.”

    1. Thank you, Diane, for the local resource!! We LOVE to see girls like Reagan getting passionate and involved in such causes. She is truly an inspiration!

      1. I certainly don’t want to mislead. Reagan was not presenting on the evening of which I posted. She was observing and will continue to observe presenters until she gets her opportunity to co-present for SWITCH. I too love to see girls be passionate about important things. SWITCH has done very well with training, educating, and allowing her to be involved in areas where it’s appropriate for a minor. I highly recommend this group to anyone wanting to get involved in the fight against human trafficking.
Thank you, Culture Redeemed, for shining a light on this subject!
